PASADENA — A jury found a Nickelodeon Studios animator guilty Friday of one misdemeanor count of inappropriately touching a 14-year-old boy and one felony count of offering to show pornography to the boy. But the 12-person jury was split on a third charge of showing, sending or distributing harmful material, and found Ezel Channel not guilty of touching a second boy at Nickelodeon, his attorney Thomas White said. Channel, 39, of Tarzana was accused of luring two teenage boys into his workplace, showing them pornography and inappropriately touching them in November 2005.

Extraordinary acts of kindness and generosity shown by local residents and businesses do not surprise us anymore, as this is such a giving community. But they are always welcome news. And, particularly at this time of year, there are usually many wonderful stories to share. One this Thanksgiving week centered on an anonymous gift of $20,000 to Loaves and Fishes, a south Glendale food bank run by Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. The donor, acting on a story he read in the News-Press about the agency's need to fill its pantry, stepped up and delivered big. One can easily imagine Lora Young, the food bank's program coordinator, "just about dancing on air," as she described the feeling she had when she learned of the gift, which will provide food for those in need through the winter and into the spring.

Just as things had begun to look glum this holiday season for coordinators of the local food bank, Loaves and Fishes, an anonymous donor heard their call for help and bestowed them with $20,000. The donor's sizable gifts, including 15 shopping carts full of Costco groceries, came after he read a News-Press story earlier this month about the food bank's need for funds to fill its pantry, which feeds hundreds of families, seniors and the homeless. "I am flabbergasted," said Lora Young, the food bank's program coordinator.
