The following are updates on local athletes at the collegiate level. Alyssa Sovereign (Crescenta Valley High, 2010) sophomore, Penn State softball: After skidding off the rails on a 13-game losing streak, the Nittany Lions have shown some signs of late, currently riding a four-game winning streak into today's home game against Temple. During the streak, which began with a win over Pittsburgh on April 3 and continued with a three-game home sweep of Big Ten Conference foe Michigan State, the Nittany Lions' right fielder has batted .357 (five for 14)

The following are updates on local athletes at the collegiate level. Alyssa Sovereign (Crescenta Valley High, 2010) sophomore, Penn State softball: After getting out to a bit of a slow start, the Crescenta Valley High product has come on strong as of late. She's gone 10 for 30 over a current eight-game hitting streak that's also including a four-game winning streak for the Nittany Lions that only just ended on Sunday when Penn state lost to Illinois, 1-0, in the final game of its stay at the Citrus Classic in Kissimmee, Fla. Penn State began the tournament with a split of a doubleheader against Virginia (13-1 loss)

GLENDALE — The following are updates on local athletes at the collegiate level. Alyssa Sovereign (Crescenta Valley High, 2010) freshman, Penn State softball: With plenty of former Falcons currently playing at the collegiate level, Sovereign turned in the biggest season to date and did so in her first season in the college ranks. The Nittany Lions, making their first NCAA playoffs appearance since 2007, went 2-2 in regional action before their season ultimately ended in a 3-1 loss to Oregon on Sunday.

GLENDALE — The following are updates on local athletes at the collegiate level. Danny Casey (Glendale Community College, 2009) senior, Concordia University baseball: The La Crescenta resident played a role in helping the Eagles advance to the Avista-National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, for the first time since 2006. Concordia received a three-run homer from designated hitter Bryan Nicholson to record a 4-2 win against third-seeded host California Baptist on Saturday in the title game of the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round Riverside Bracket.

GLENDALE — The following are updates on local athletes at the collegiate level. Heather Brusokas (Glendale High, 2006) senior, Davenport University softball: A hot streak at the plate is quickly turning into a season-long tour de force for the former Nitros standout. For the second consecutive week, the talented shortstop was bestowed the honor of being the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Week. For the previous week, Brusokas hit .444 and extended her hitting streak to 15 games, when it was broken.
