Joyce Rudolph Descanso Gardens offers art exhibits, concerts LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- From art to music, several events are planned at Descanso Gardens in July. Maria Mareque will show her latest collection of landscape oil paintings at the Boddy House Gallery beginning July 6. She will be joined by Patricia Wiley, watercolor artist, and John Drake, ceramist. The art show continues through Aug. 2. The Boddy gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Flute player Jon Sherman will perform at 1 p.m. July 7 as part of the Under the Oaks series.

o7The following incidents were taken from reports at the Glendale Police Station: f7 600 block of West Wilson Avenue: A 29-year-old man reported Saturday that $15,000 in oil paintings and frames were stolen. 200 block of South Central Avenue: a 20-year-old Glendale woman was arrested Sunday on suspicion of shoplifting $531 in merchandise from Macy's. South Brand Boulevard and West Chevy Chase Drive: A 42-year-old La Crescenta man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of possession of cocaine.

Darleene Barrientos Nature's landscapes will be inside the Boddy House at Descanso Gardens on Friday in the form of oil and watercolor paintings and sculpture. Five artists -- including two locals -- working in different mediums will present their work at the Boddy House Gallery through Aug. 28 as part of the gardens' ongoing art exhibits, spokeswoman Avery Econome said. "The gardens' mission revolves around the natural world," she said.

Visitors to Descanso Gardens can take a break from the heat and still enjoy nature's serene beauty. Boddy House's "World of Color," is a group exhibition of oil paintings, watercolor and ceramics on display through Sept. 22, that offers natures' splendor in a more visitor friendly environment. "As a therapist, I like to infuse my paintings with peace and harmony," said Trish Kertes, a marriage and family therapist whose oil paintings of open landscapes and water scenes help fill the gallery.

Marianne Love Merchants in the Montrose Shopping Park will continue to give away away free 'I Love Montrose' pins until the supply lasts. The pins are 2 inches in diameter and have a white background with black lettering and a red heart. There is no purchase necessary. Merchants began the giveaway in conjunction with Valentine's Day. Some of the original 5,000 pins are still available. Montrose Shopping Park is in the 2200 to 2400 block of Honolulu Avenue.

Marianne Love MONTROSE -- In the 20 years since Roland Clark retired from the gardening business, he hasn't wandered too far from the natural world. Clark, a Tujunga resident, is one of more than 40 artists expected to demonstrate their talents Saturday at the Montrose Art Walk 2000, sponsored by the Montrose Park Shopping Assn. "I worked outdoor in my regular employment and was able to understand the texture of bedding plants and their color," the 79-year-old landscape watercolor artist said.

Exhibit is up at FastFrame FastFrame continues its portion of the Open Studio Exhibit at 112 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale. Artists featured are Robin Cohen, stone sculpture and oil paintings; Suzanne Ehrmann, hand made jewelry with silver, gems and glass; Chun Ming Huang, photographs of Hong Cun in China; a village founded in the mid Song Dynasty (1131-1162); Richard Pina, portrait illustration, architectural renderings, paintings; Renee Sands, collages with paper and stone.

Gary Moskowitz The YWCA of Glendale will be "ARTrageous" this weekend, and staff members want the community to join in the fun. The organization will hold its second annual ARTrageous Evening of Art at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the YWCA of Glendale, 735 E. Lexington Drive. The event includes a cocktail reception and art preview session at 5:30 p.m., followed by an art auction at 6:30 p.m. A few hundred pieces of art -- including lithographs, engravings, etchings, silk-screen prints, watercolor and oil paintings, and cartoons -- will be auctioned off at the fundraising event.
