Glendale Community College's baseball team is well aware of its recent history. The Vaqueros have won three consecutive Western State Conference Southern Division championships, they just had four players named to the preseason All-American list and they're ranked in the top 10 by the California Community College Athletic Assn. Their success has been noticed by high school athletes wishing to continue to play at the next level and other community college players, including David Whitaker, a Crescenta Valley High graduate who transferred to Glendale college from Pasadena City College.

Even eight meets into the season, two weeks deep inside the postseason and the Glendale Community College men's and women's cross-country teams are still talking about making strong impressions and proving something to themselves. Perhaps that's just the calling card for a program with near unparalleled success over the last decade or maybe there's something more to the rhetoric. Both squads will take part in Friday morning's California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Championships at Central Park in Santa Clarita.

OXNARD - High hopes and a winning tradition for the Glendale Community College cross-country program begin with Western State Conference titles. Those hopes were, at least, somewhat dashed Thursday afternoon under gloomy skies at Oxnard College. Though it wasn't their best performance, the GCC women's team easily prevailed in winning a ninth straight WSC championship, but it was the men's result that left a bitter conclusion to the day for the Vaqueros. GCC's men's squad's string of conference crowns was halted at five, as College of the Canyons edged the Vaqueros, 43-49, roughly 40 minutes after the GCC women defeated runner-up Moorpark, 56-105.

NORTHEAST GLENDALE — It’s gotten so bad of late for the Glendale Community College men’s soccer team that it can’t put together a quality scoring opportunity. If it could, Glendale college would then be taking a gigantic step forward. There weren’t any major steps taken Friday night during Glendale college’s 4-0 loss to visiting Santa Barbara City College in a Western State Conference match at Sartoris Field.
