The Alex Theatre administrative staff has seen its fair share of turnover in the past two years. Most recently, Lisa Hogan, who was the organization's director of marketing for a year, left to pursue opportunities in freelance marketing. Her successor, Doug Hosner, began at The Alex in April, but notified the staff of his intention to leave this week.

Edgar Melik-Stepanyan Their tough challenge turned into a walkover. The members of the Glendale Community College men's tennis team were expecting to be pushed by Grossmont College in Tuesday's Southern California Regional semifinal home match. Instead, the second-seeded Vaqueros earned the right to go home early after they defeated the Griffins, 6-0, in a little more than an hour. Unlike the regular season, a postseason match ends when a team wins the required five matches.

Hoover High School's class of 1943 exchanged old memories and made some new ones last week when they met for the 64th reunion in Palm Desert. With the Embassy Suites as their home base from Jan. 9 to 12, classmates started each day with breakfast together and met up again later for happy hours and several dinners. In between, they broke into small groups to see the sights. Many of the male classmates had left after graduation to serve during World War II, so the visit to the Palm Springs Air Museum was a big hit. Some of the planes were the same types flown by classmates and they were able to offer some trivia to the docents' material.

BURBANK - Late in Saturday afternoon's CIF Southern Section Division V quarterfinal boys' water polo match between host Hoover High and second-seeded Palm Desert at Burbank High, the Aztecs erupted in celebration while holding a one-goal lead as the final buzzer blared. About 10 minutes later, the Tornadoes did the same thing. Palm Desert's exultation turned out to be premature, as a timekeeping error at the scorer's table put time back on the clock and gave Hoover a second chance to tie the game in regulation.
