DUI checkpoint yields 15 arrests Sunday A sobriety checkpoint Sunday at San Fernando Road and Palmer Avenue yielded 15 arrests for infractions such as not having a driver’s license to outstanding misdemeanor and felony warrants. No one was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. Of the 481 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 354 were screened. Eleven vehicles were towed and 20 citations were issued. Two drivers were arrested for possession of drugs, nine were unlicensed drivers and one had an outstanding felony warrant, according to Glendale Police.

Jackson Bell A Burbank Superior Court judge sentenced a woman accused of robbing a Bank of America earlier this month to two years in state prison. Norma Martus, 50, of Echo Park, was sentenced to two years in state prison Tuesday. Martus pleaded no contest Aug. 9 to a charge of armed robbery. On Aug. 5, Martus walked into the bank at 3812 San Fernando Road and allegedly robbed the teller by claiming to carry a bomb inside her gift bag, police said.

Tim Willert Police logs The following incidents were taken from police reports. Los Feliz Boulevard and San Fernando Road: A 31-year-old Los Angeles man and a 24-year-old Los Angeles woman were arrested Friday on suspicion of grand theft auto and receiving stolen property after the 2001 Dodge Intrepid they were driving was reported stolen. Police recovered stolen property from the car, including stereo equipment and watches. 1100 block of Campbell Street: A 30-year-old Long Beach man was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly slashing a 33-year-old Glendale man twice with a broken beer bottle.

Emerald Isle Drive and Kirkham Drive: A 26-year-old Glendale man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of possession of marijuana. 1400 block of Merriman Drive: A 56-year-old Glendale man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of being drunk in public.

Glendale police arrested a La Cañada Flintridge man and a Sparr Heights man after an empty beer bottle hit one of the officers at a Sparr Heights bar after hours. Garry Lee Regier Jr., 27, of Sparr Heights, and Brian Anthony Klumpe, 24, of La Cañada, were arrested at Blue Moon, located at 3509 N. Verdugo Rd., in the early morning hours of May 14. A police report states the bar owner called police to request assistance when two men allegedly would not leave the bar after it closed.

Judy Seckler VERDUGO MOUNTAINS -- When Bernice Brown first moved into her canyon home 34 years ago, the coyotes kept to their neck of the woods. In a recent letter, the homeowner told the News-Press that coyotes have now become a major predator in her neighborhood. "I live in fear on my own property," she wrote. On July 19 at 9 p.m., Brown's mini-dachshund and treasured family pet, Krissy, was mauled in the backyard. Brown dashed out to the back of the house with a bicycle horn after hearing frantic barking.

HILLSIDE — A Burbank police sergeant who was listed in an FBI probe into police misconduct shot himself to death Thursday morning on the corner of a residential street, authorities said. Burbank police Sgt. Neil Thomas Gunn Sr., 50, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the corner of North Sunset Canyon Drive and East Harvard Road, Lt. John Dilibert said. Police were called to the intersection about 11:40 a.m. after witnesses reported seeing Gunn turn the gun on himself, Sgt. Thor Merich said.

Brand Boulevard and Lomita Avenue: A 61-year-old North Hollywood man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of leaving the scene of a traffic accident.
