STONE ? WEDEL Sarah Elisa Stone of La Crescenta and Collin P. Wedel of Tucson, Ariz., were married at Mandalay Palms Estate in Malibu. They recited their personally written vows against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean. Dr. Greg Lavine officiated. A special moment during the ceremony was when the bride?s great-aunt, Elsie Anderson of Glendale, sang the ?Lord?s Prayer,? as she had the day of the bride?s parents? wedding 25 years earlier. The maid of honor was Anna Freudenberg . Bridesmaids were Alexis Padis, Amanda Leahy, Lauren McCord and Alissa Smith . The best man was Max Wedel . Ushers were Travis North, Cameron North, Eric Wedel and Rob Stone . The bride is the daughter of Nancy and Gene ?

FRISTAD ? MCCABE Jeanette and Steve Fristad of Glendale have announced the engagement of their daughter, Sara Kristine Fristad of Westlake Village, to Christopher Michael McCabe of Westlake Village. The bride-to-be is employed as a senior sales operations analyst by Amgen in Thousand Oaks. She is a 1997 graduate of Village Christian High School in Sunland. She graduated in 2000 from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks and is working on her master's in business administration through Pepperdine University.

Holland Kerker makes her college debut and will sing the lead of Despina, in Mozart's "Così Fan Tutte" in Smothers Theatre on the campus of Pepperdine University, 24255 Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, on Feb. 24 and 26. On a wager, two Italian soldiers assume disguises in an attempt to seduce the other's lover to test her constancy. When their sweethearts' resistance begins to weaken, the men start worrying about more than just losing their bet. The comic opera is one of Mozart's sparkling masterpieces.

Karen S. Kim GLENDALE -- Glendale resident Mark Wayne Dundee has been named the West Coast geographic chairman of the 2002 U.S. Savings Bonds Committee. The appointment was made by U.S. Treasury Secretary Paul H. O'Neill at the committee's national meeting in Washington D.C. Dundee, 37, has nine college degrees, has authored several national treaties on retirement benefits and Social Security and has been used by the California Supreme Court as a national expert on retirement benefits.

Judy Seckler MALIBU -- Glendale High School student Arpa Baroni was among 270 high school juniors who attended the 23rd annual Southern California Youth Citizenship Seminar at Pepperdine University. Baroni was nominated by the principal or counselor at her school for the seminar on the basis of character and leadership ability as well as high academic performance determined by class ranking. Students attending the seminar explored free enterprise, crime and punishment, character, responsibility, politics and international affairs with community leaders from various walks of life from June 19-23.

A Crescenta Valley High School graduate received the Dalsimer Award at Pepperdine University. Rana Kawar is a third-year law student at Pepperdine. She hopes to work as a plaintiff's attorney in the field of elder abuse. "It was an absolute thrill to be questioned by real judges from the Ninth and D.C. Circuit Courts of Appeals. The competition was very close and it was surprising to defeat our esteemed opponents who were last year's champions of the Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition," Kawar said in a prepared statement.

College UpdateFormer Glendale High star water polo athlete scores a goal for Pepperdine University in weekend tournament.GLENDALE -- The following is an update on former local athletes who are playing at the collegiate level: Matt Hahn (Glendale, 2002), junior driver, Pepperdine University men's water polo -- Hahn, who was named the Glendale News-Press James H. Jenkins Male Athlete of the Year in 2002, was one of seven Pepperdine athletes to score a goal in the Waves' 11-8 victory against UC Davis in an opening-round match of the NorCal Tournament at the University of California on Saturday.

The following are updates on local athletes at the collegiate level. Alex Sarkissian (Glendale Community College, 2011) redshirt junior, Pepperdine University men's tennis: After blowing away the competition with the Vaqueros, Sarkissian has shown he stacks up against NCAA competition at Pepperdine. The Waves are currently on a four-match winning streak and ranked sixth in NCAA Division I with a 14-4, 1-0 in West Coast Conference record and Sarkissian, a Glendale native, has also been in top form as of late with wins in his last four singles matches that have him at 11-3 on the year.

RUBEN ? BROOKS Jaimi B. Ruben and Mathew Brooks , both of Brentwood, have announced their engagement. Jaimi is the daughter of Jeannie Mile s of Palm Springs. The bride-to-be graduated from La Crescenta High School in 1999. She earned a degree in psychology at UCLA and a masters in marriage, family and child counseling at Pepperdine University. She is the owner of Fiore Bridal Nails and Mobile Beauty services in the greater Los Angeles area. Mathew is the son of Gary and Julia Brooks of Redmond, Wash.
