LA CAÑADA - At match-point in the fourth game of their Prep League match Wednesday against Chadwick, with the league championship on the line, the Flintridge Prep boys' volleyball players and coach Sean Beattie celebrated as the ball appeared to be hit long by the Dolphins. However, the Rebels' celebration was short-lived, as the head official called the shot in, giving Chadwick new life. The Dolphins came back to win the stanza, forcing a crucial fifth game. Undaunted by the pressure, the Rebels regrouped and turned back the Dolphins in the fifth, sending the visitors home with a 25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 24-26, 15-13 loss.

GLENDALE - When Flintridge Prep hosted Webb at the Glendale Sports Complex on Thursday, it promised to be a tight baseball game between two Prep league contenders ranked in the top 10 in CIF Southern Section Division VI and the result would be key in a tight league race. To get the result they needed, the Rebels, ranked No. 9 in the division, were tasked with overcoming a Gaul squad ranked No. 2 in the division, yet to lose in league, and riding a 13-game win streak this season in addition to a six-game win streak versus the hosts over the last two seasons.

LA CAÑADA - Looking around the court, Mike Lii has seen something stand out concerning the Flintridge Prep boys' volleyball team. “We are a lot more focused and we try to keep each other in check,” said Lii, who recorded 31 assists Wednesday to help host Flintridge Prep record a 28-26, 25-20, 25-18 Prep League win against Rio Hondo Prep and inch closer to winning its first league title since 2010. “We might not have been that way all the time the last couple of years, but we know what we need to do to be successful right now.” The Rebels have enjoyed plenty of success since opening the season with three losses in a row and are ranked eighth in the latest CIF Southern Section Division IV poll.

LA CAÑADA - Flintridge Prep boys' volleyball Coach Sean Beattie expects success from his team this year. Considering the squad is a talented, senior-heavy bunch, why not? "We had been playing our best volleyball prior to spring break," Beattie said following the Rebels home match against Pasadena Poly on Tuesday. "Then we had that two week break. I think we slowed a little bit today. I don't think we played as well today as we did before spring break. " That's a frightening proposition considering how good Prep looked in dismissing Poly in straight sets 25-14, 25-19, 25-15.

GLENDALE - It had been nearly two weeks since the Flintridge Prep baseball team had taken the field. Might there be a cause for concern about physical rust or mental distractions impeding the team's progress? "That was a big worry for me," said Flintridge Coach Guillermo Gonzalez. "We didn't practice during spring break. They came out ready to play today. " After 13 days away from the diamond because of spring break and a canceled game, the Rebels dominated Rio Hondo Prep, 12-2, in a Prep League game Thursday at the Glendale Sports Complex.
