LA CAÑADA - Flintridge Prep boys' volleyball Coach Sean Beattie expects success from his team this year. Considering the squad is a talented, senior-heavy bunch, why not? "We had been playing our best volleyball prior to spring break," Beattie said following the Rebels home match against Pasadena Poly on Tuesday. "Then we had that two week break. I think we slowed a little bit today. I don't think we played as well today as we did before spring break. " That's a frightening proposition considering how good Prep looked in dismissing Poly in straight sets 25-14, 25-19, 25-15.

GLENDALE - It had been nearly two weeks since the Flintridge Prep baseball team had taken the field. Might there be a cause for concern about physical rust or mental distractions impeding the team's progress? "That was a big worry for me," said Flintridge Coach Guillermo Gonzalez. "We didn't practice during spring break. They came out ready to play today. " After 13 days away from the diamond because of spring break and a canceled game, the Rebels dominated Rio Hondo Prep, 12-2, in a Prep League game Thursday at the Glendale Sports Complex.

LA CAÑADA - While half the Prep League was on spring break Thursday afternoon, the other half prepared for the second half of the season with a competitive league tri-league meet at La Cañada High that may have been more hotly contested than expected. In what may very well foreshadow a close Prep League championship later this season, the host Flintridge Prep boys defeated Pasadena Poly, 64-63, while the Panthers' girls exacted a measure of revenge by scoring 81 points in topping the Rebels (51)

There was no argument at the meeting to determine the All-Prep League boys' basketball team when it came to deciding the most valuable player for the 2012-13 season. The obvious choice was Flintridge Prep point guard Robert Cartwright, arguably the best offensive and defensive player in the league. While the Rebels have dominated the Prep League in recent years and have boasted a number of talented players - including center Kenyatta Smith, who recently showcased his skills to the whole nation in the NCAA Tournament with Harvard University - Flintridge Prep Coach Garrett Ohara said the uniform decision was a little unusual.

PASADENA - it certainly didn't come easy for Will Dixon on Friday afternoon. The junior Flintridge Prep boys' tennis player is normally slotted in doubles, but an illness to the Rebels' top singles player forced the team to rearrange the lineup accordingly. LA CANADA - If the first game was any indication, the Flintridge Prep and La Cañada High boys' volleyball teams were in for a nailbiter in a nonleague rematch between the cross-town opponents Friday. The tone set in the first game, which included 10 ties, continued the entire match, as it took five games for the Rebels to ultimately emerge victorious with Prep middle blocker Tyler Weakland scoring the final two points of the game to deliver the 26-24, 23-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-13 win on La Cañada's homecourt.

Shortly after being named the new co-coaches of the Flintridge Prep girls' basketball team last spring, Kevin Kiyomura and Jayme Kiyomura-Chan began to comb through their player personnel. The coaching duo inherited a team filled with potential after the Rebels advanced to the playoffs under former coach Todd Frost in 2012. Kiyomura and Kiyomura-Chan wanted to shape the returning talent while also forming a strong nucleus for the next several years. Flintridge Prep stayed the course, relying on a trio of underclassmen in Maya Okamoto, Tala Ismail and Lacy Coan to play huge roles in helping it finish second in the Prep League before advancing to the CIF Southern Section Division V-AA semifinals and making an appearance in the CIF State Division V Championships.

LA CANADA - In some ways, the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy and Flintridge Prep softball teams are similar. That proved to be evident when the teams met Wednesday afternoon in a nonleague contest at Flintridge Prep. The Tologs and Rebels both possess strong lineups. However, both teams are still trying to shore up their respective pitching staffs and defense. Flintridge Sacred Heart showed some more pop Wednesday, as it finished with 11 hits en route to a 21-11 win in a contest called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

GLENDALE - Wins have been scarce for the Flintridge Prep baseball team against nemesis and Prep League rival Pasadena Poly. Between 2005-2012, the Rebels posted a 3-21 mark against the Panthers, who have won 17 league championships in a row. PHOTOS: Flintridge Prep baseball vs. Pasadena Poly With a new coach on board, Flintridge Prep is looking to reverse that trend. It got off to a good start Tuesday afternoon. Starting pitcher Brenden McKiernan tossed a four-hitter and center fielder Daniel Enzminger had two hits and made a game-changing catch to lead host Flintridge Prep to a 5-1 victory against Pasadena Poly at the Glendale Sports Complex.

GLENDALE - Flintridge Prep baseball team welcomed fellow CIF-Southern Section Division VI member Providence to the Glendale Sports Complex for a final nonleague matchup Friday afternoon. The older, more experienced Rebels played strong baseball at the plate and in the field to hold off the younger, greener Pioneers and come away with a convincing 10-1 victory. “I had five starting freshman,” third-year Providence Coach Steve Knez said, “so, I'd say, playing against a squad like that we're moving in the right direction.” Flintridge Prep (6-2)
