Though the season doesn't start for another two weeks, the Glendale Community College football schedule has clearly been on the mind of Vaqueros Coach John Rome. Although the Vaqueros finished 1-9 and 1-5 in the Pacific Conference's American Division last season, five of those losses were decided by a touchdown or less. This season's schedule will remain the same, though the sites will be reversed. Glendale college's longest road trip will carry it to Santa Barbara in late October.

GLENDALE — Last year, the Glendale Community College football team started out a torrid 3-0, but in the end it didn't count for much, as the Vaqueros finished 4-5. The shoe is on the other foot two games into the 2010 campaign, as the Vaqueros still seek their first win. But as shaky as the young and largely inexperienced team has looked in its two nonconference losses, third-year Coach John Rome knows it still has plenty of time...

GLENDALE — After his Glendale Community College football team opened its season with a 41-20 home defeat against Pasadena City College, Vaqueros third-year football Coach John Rome realizes it might take some time for the team to find itself and play together. "We are young, especially on offense," said Rome, whose squad will get a shot at redemption when it meets visiting Golden West College in a nonconference contest at 6 p.m. today at Sartoris Field. "Nine of our 11 starters on offense didn't play at the college level last year.

GLENDALE — Glendale Community College football Coach John Rome knows full well about the dynamics surrounding Allan Hancock College's stalwart offensive attack. Rome can reflect back on the last two seasons, when the Vaqueros and Bulldogs were members of the Northern Conference's National Division and the Bulldogs averaged 56 points per game against Glendale's shell-shocked defense. While the Vaqueros are no longer in the same division with the Bulldogs, they still must face them this season.

Edgar Melik-Stepanyan The Glendale Community College football team will stick to the status quo. That's what Vaquero offensive coordinator John Rome had to say as he put the finishing touches on GCC's game plan for today's 1 p.m. contest against West L.A. at Culver City High. The Vaqueros will seek their first win in the Western State Conference Southern Division, and they'll stay with what they've done for the first three weeks of the season. That means sophomore quarterback Kenneth McDaniel will get the start, despite his recent struggles.

GLENDALE — Right from the start, Glendale Community College second-year football Coach John Rome figured his defensive unit would be up to speed. Rome surmised correctly after the Vaqueros opened the season Sept. 5 with a 51-29 home victory against West Los Angeles College. Now, Rome will look for another strong defensive performance when Glendale college meets East Los Angeles College in a nonconference road game at 6 p.m. today. “From the first day they were able to put the pads on, our defense was willing to hit and tackle,” Rome said.

One secured first-team honors, while the other five were selected to the second team.
