GLENDALE — The following are updates on area Major League Baseball players .   Freddy Sanchez (Glendale Community College, 1998): In his San Francisco Giants debut on Sunday, Sanchez proved that sometimes you do get a second chance to make a first impression. After making a throwing error that led to the Philadelphia Phillies taking a one-run lead in the top of the fourth inning, Sanchez returned to play the role of a hero at the plate with two outs and runners at the corners in the fifth, smacking a two-run double to the gap in right-center field off Cole Hamels that gave the Giants the lead back and proved to be the difference in their 7-3 win at AT&T Park.

GLENDALE — The following are updates on area athletes in Major League Baseball. HIRSH FALTERS IN LATEST OUTING St. Francis High graduate Jason Hirsh struggled a bit in his latest outing, but has also made some news off the field. On the field, the Colorado Rockies right-hander lost to the host St. Louis Cardinals, 9-2, on Thursday. Hirsh (2-3) yielded three earned runs, five hits and six walks. He struck out five in four-plus innings. The Rockies, who lost for the third time in their last four games, tied the game at 2 with single runs in the third and fifth innings.
