After being released by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in late July, Trevor Bell began to explore any potential options about a return to Major League Baseball. On Monday, Bell found a suitor after he checked his cell phone messages. Bell, a former Crescenta Valley High star and All-Area Baseball Player of the Year selection, signed a minor league free agent deal with the Detroit Tigers, who advanced to the World Series this past season against the San Francisco Giants, on Tuesday.

GLENDALE — The following are updates on area athletes playing minor league baseball .   Trevor Bell (Crescenta Valley High, 2005) Salt Lake Bees starting pitcher: Making his season debut for Double-A Salt Lake on Sunday afternoon, Bell was sharp over 6 2/3 innings, holding the Tacoma Raniers to one run on six hits and outlasting former American League Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee to pick up the 4-1 win. In front of packed stadium on hand to see the Seattle Mariners ace make an injury rehab start, Bell matched Lee scoreless inning for inning through the first six frames.

The following are updates on local baseball players at the minor league level. Ryan Sherriff (Glendale Community College, 2011) Palm Beach Cardinals starting pitcher: Sherriff made his season and Florida State League debut with the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday after being brought up from the Class-A Short Season New York-Penn League Muckdogs on Saturday. The former Vaquero responded to the promotion by picking up the win in an 8-4 victory over the Daytona Cubs after going seven innings with four runs (three earned)

ANAHEIM — Focused straight ahead, Trevor Bell skipped over the third-base line and into Major League Baseball. The former Crescenta Valley High phenom made his big league debut on Wednesday at Angel Stadium amid a crowd of 37,859 — with a couple hundred at least there specifically to cheer him on — and started a game the Angels would finish with a 10-5 victory. “It was amazing,” said Bell, who received news on Saturday night that he was being called up to play for the Angels from the triple-A Salt Lake Bees.

Trevor Bell (Crescenta Valley High, 2005) pitcher, Salt Lake Bees: It's been a bit of whirlwind week for Bell, a former All-Area Baseball Player of the Year. He was sent down to Salt Lake on Monday after the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim acquired starting pitcher Dan Haren from the Arizona Diamondbacks in a five-player swap Sunday and called up reliever Michael Kohn from Salt Lake.

GLENDALE — The following are updates on area Major League Baseball players. Trevor Bell (Crescenta Valley High, 2005) Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitcher : After beginning the 2011 season with the triple-A Salt Lake Bees, the former first-round pick was called back up to the Angels to begin his third Major League Baseball season. With left-handed reliever Scott Downs headed to the disabled list, Bell was recalled on Friday and made his first appearance of the season, as well.
