Vera Rae Gehl, the mother of Msgr. James C. Gehl, pastor of St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church, was peacefully called home by her God on April 6, 2005. She was 80 years old. Born in Kenosha, Wis., she was most recently a 15-year resident of Murrieta, Calif. She leaves a husband of 58 years, four children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her faith, her family and her friendships. Memorial Masses were celebrated at St. Martha's Catholic Church in Murrieta on Monday and St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church on Tuesday, Interment was at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.

Clifford Kirst, 86, of Glendale, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2011 after a courageous fight with cancer.  He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and their eight children: Sister Mary Charlotte Kirst, Tom Kirst, Debbie Dunkel, Carol Poore, Sarah Dunkel, Leah Aguirre, Jenny Rez and Helen Martin.  He also leaves behind a daughter-in-law, 6 sons-in-law, 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The Vigil Service will be held Friday, February 4 at Cabot & Sons, Pasadena, at 7:00 pm and the Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 5 at Incarnation Church at 10:00 am followed immediately by graveside services at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.

BLAIR HENRY GRANOSKI Blair Henry Granoski, 83, died May 13, 2003, in La Crescenta. He was born June 11, 1919, in Brown's Valley, Minn., and lived in La Crescenta for 43 years. He worked as an auto insurance adjuster for 38 years. Mr. Granoski is survived by three sons and a grandchild. The Mass of Christian burial is at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 4625 Dunsmore Ave., La Crescenta. The interment follows at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, 11160 Stranwood Ave., Mission Hills.

1910-2004 Former Sunland resident Francis J. Crotty passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 20, 2004, in Chico. He was born Sept. 1, 1910, in Chicago, Ill. to his mother, Myrtle, and his father, John. He was reared on a farm in West Salem, Wis., along with nine younger brothers and sisters. As a young man, he moved to Los Angeles, where he met and married his wife, Grace, on Nov. 10, 1940. He served in the 43rd Infantry Division during World War II from June 1944 until December 1945.

Margaret Mary Benesch, born August 10, 1912, in Illinois, died June 27, 2004, in La Crescenta. She was the beloved wife of the late Rudolph; loving mother of Barbara (Mel) Herwald of Virginia, Marjorie (Bill) Schmermund of New Jersey and Judy (Doug) Falkenberg of La Cañada; proud grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of six. Her love was for her family and golfing with her husband at Chevy Chase Country Club. A Funeral Mass was held Wednesday morning, June 30, at St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church, followed by interment at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.

LEONE MARGARET WILLIAMS Leone Margaret Williams, 79, died June 4, 2003. She was born Aug. 19, 1923, in New York and lived in La Crescenta for 45 years. She worked as a real estate broker for more than 35 years. She was also a member of the Glendale Republican Women's Club and Las Companerios Club. Mrs. Williams is survived by her daughter, Barbara Boucher; and several grandchildren. The funeral service is at 11 a.m. today at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 4635 Dunsmore Ave., La Crescenta.

JOHN I. SALVINI John I. Salvini, 85, a longtime Glendale resident, died Nov. 16, 2002, in San Diego. Mr. Salvini was born in Newark, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary; brothers, Henry and William A. Salvini; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Brooke Salvini, Michael and Barbara Salvini and William and Tanya Salvini; daughter, Mary T.
