NORTHEAST GLENDALE — The Glendale Community College women’s volleyball team certainly didn’t make it easy for visiting Santa Barbara City College to wrap up a win on Tuesday night. Unfortunately for the Vaqueros, they made things pretty difficult on themselves by losing the first two games. Playing with newfound tenacity, Glendale college was able to win the third game and put up a strong fight in the fourth before bowing out, 25-18, 25-9, 17-25, 25-19. “We seem to, for whatever reason, play really well in Game Three and what I’m trying to figure out is how we can get that same mentality in Game One,” said Glendale college Coach Yvette Ybarra, whose team fell to 2-5 on the season.

Mirjam Swanson GLENDALE -- The Glendale Community College football team could tell you, when you're on a roll, things just seem to rolling your way. And, you know what? It's nice. The latest thing to go right for the Vaqueros was their 21-17 Western State Conference win at Santa Barbara City College, which -- thanks to Bakersfield's loss Saturday -- gave GCC sole possession of first place. The win -- which improved the Vaqueros' record to 6-2 and 6-0 in conference -- was also their sixth straight, marking the first time since 1992 a GCC team has won that many in a row. "Absolutely, it feels good," GCC Coach John Cicuto said.

Peter Fuertes SCHOLL CANYON PARK -- All the Glendale Community College softball team needed Thursday was one good rally. However, GCC was frustrated in its inability to get the tying run in a 2-1 loss to Santa Barbara City College in a Western State Conference interdivisional game at Scholl Canyon Park. GCC (7-7 overall, 1-2 in conference) stranded seven runners on base -- most of whom were in scoring position. Its best chance to score came in the bottom of the sixth inning, after Nisi Marquez singled and Zulema Argota followed with a double to put runners on second and third with no outs.
