Charles Rich Jimmy Goffredo (Crescenta Valley, 2003), sophomore guard, Harvard University men's basketball -- Goffredo, the 2003 All-Area Co-Player of the Year, scored 14 points in 18 minutes to help the host Crimson to a 67-56 nonconference victory against Lehigh University on Saturday. Lehigh held a 42-41 lead with 9:46 left, but Harvard (3-6) used a 13-0 run close out the contest. Goffredo scored five points in that stretch. Goffredo made seven of nine free throws.

It is with mixed emotions that YMCA of the Foothills Chief Executive Larry Hall will move his family to the Seattle area in the next few weeks, he said in an interview shortly after announcing his retirement Thursday. “There are a lot of giving people in these communities. Working with so many great leaders in the community has been a great experience I won’t forget,” Hall said. The outgoing chief executive was honored at a retirement luncheon last week and gathered again Monday afternoon with a group of friends, co-workers and family members at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA for a less formal retirement party.

GLENDALE — The following are updates on area athletes at the collegiate level .   Mackenna Karasawa (Glendale Community College, 2008) senior guard, Hawaii Pacific University basketball senior: After clinching the program’s first-ever NCAA West Region Tournament berth on March 4, the Sea Warriors wrapped up their first-ever Pac West Conference championship with an 86-61 home win over BYU Hawaii in the regular-season finale on Monday night. Karasawa scored 13 points and dished out four assists in the win, which came on the heels of a missed chance to clinch the title in a 99-80 loss to Dixie State on Saturday.
