Southern California Lyric Theater, in association with the city of Sierra Madre, will present the play Narnia, a musical based on C.S. Lewis' classic novel "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." Only four performances will be offered for this event, Saturday evenings, April 29 and May 6 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday matinees, April 30 and May 7 at 2 p.m., all in the newly refurbished historic Sierra Madre Auditorium on the grounds of the Sierra Madre Elementary School at 141 W. Highland Ave (enter from Auburn Avenue)

Deborah Scott and Patty Wynne-Hughes are helping to make the season bright with their appearances in Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" at the Sierra Madre Playhouse. Their vivid characterizations are enhanced by singing and dancing in the mid-19 century setting. Both women are featured vocalists in solos, duets and quartet performances. Wynne-Hughes was lead vocalist for the Step Sisters, singing hits from the 1940s, 50s and 60s, performing internationally, including appearances with Linda Rondstat, Mel Torme and Tex Beneke.

A man who went missing on Friday while hiking near Chantry Flats in the Angeles National Forest turned up safe early Monday morning, authorities said. Matthew Hernandez, 29, had last been seen Friday evening. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Sierra Madre Search and Rescue began searching for Hernandez when he did not return home. Hernandez wandered out of the forest around 3:30 a.m. Monday and called his father, according to authorities. They say Hernandez was very wet and cold, and had become disoriented.

Ben Godar Whether watching the Tournament of Roses in person or on television, you're sure to find several local works of flowery endeavor. You just have to wait awhile. This year's parade will feature 107 entries, the first of which will begin its trek down Colorado Boulevard at 8 a.m. IHOP's entry, "Winter Fun," will be the first local float and the 21st in the overall lineup. The next won't come until La Canada Flintridge's float, "Backyard Heroes," cruises by in the 68th position.

Beware if you save someone's life and that person decides to repay the debt owed - especially if you've never met the person to know what he or she is like. In "The Nerd," that fate befalls Willum Cubbert, a rising young architect played by Don Owens Jones in the upcoming comedy at the Sierra Madre Playhouse. In Vietnam, another soldier saved Cubbert's life when he was wounded. Although he has never met the man, Willum has written to Rick Steadman (Barry Schwam) pledging his willingness to do anything to repay the debt.

Julie Porretta  Julie, 45, was born in Glendale, California April 26, 1965. She passed away on April 9, 2011 after facing many challenges of heart disease since she was 32. She is survived by her only child, Nicholas Porretta, her sister, Peggy Dennis (Mike), brother, Mark Porretta (Renee), step sister, Michael Ann Schulz and step brother Brian Duncan, step-mother, Mikki Porretta and long time companion, Mike Camereno. She was pre-deceased by her father, John Porretta and mother, Barbara Bessolo.

Claudia Peschiutta GLENDALE -- State Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Glendale) will be the keynote speaker Saturday at a concert to promote peace. Schiff, chairman of the state Senate Select Committee on Juvenile Justice, plans to talk about combating youth violence at "Peace Through Music," sponsored by the Pasadena Human Relations Commission. The concert will feature several musicians and dancers, including pianist Vatche Mankerian and 11-year old violinist Christopher M. Ballard.

Arroyo Repertory Theatre and Shakespeare at Play present two of the bard's witty, battle of the sexes comedies, "Much Ado About Nothing" on Aug. 3 and 4, and "As You Like It" on Aug. 10 and 11, at 8 p.m. in the Linda M. Grinstead Theatre. The theatre is located on the La Salle High School campus at 3880 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. in Pasadena. La Salle students have composed music for these plays and are part of the tech crew for each performance. Tickets are $5 for students; $9 for adults.

La Salle High in Pasadena is now accepting registration for the 2006 Summer Academic Institute and Sport Camp program. The camp, which will be held from June 19 through July 20, is geared for students ages 8 to 18. Among the course to be offered include junior high math, English, science and art as well as a variety of workshops and sports camps. Students can earn high school academic credit in some of the course and many of them offered during the summer programs satisfy University of California standards.
