Glendale police plan to conduct a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint Saturday at an undisclosed location in the city. Officers will be monitoring motorists from 7:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. at the checkpoint to determine whether they are driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Police arrested six motorists on April 20 on suspicion of DUI during a checkpoint at Los Feliz Road and Gardena Avenue. They also conducted 26 field sobriety tests and towed nine vehicles. Another 14 motorists were arrested for driver's license violations.

Nine motorists were arrested in Glendale Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol during a saturation patrol, police said. The Police Department had originally scheduled a sobriety checkpoint, but canceled the operation due to rain. Instead, police patrolled the city and looked for DUI motorists. Officers stopped 70 vehicles and conducted 21 field sobriety tests on motorists. Eight drivers were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, while another was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, according to police Sgt. Richard Phillips.

Three motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol Friday during a checkpoint in North Glendale, police said. Of the 588 vehicles processed through the grant-funded checkpoint at Pennsylvania Avenue and Montrose Avenue , 20 field sobriety tests were administered, resulting in the arrests , according to Glendale police. Two motorists were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, while a third motorist was arrested in connection with driving under the influence of drugs, according to police.

The Glendale Police Department has been awarded a $126,250-grant to operate 12 sobriety checkpoints starting Friday through Sept. 4 next year. With Glendale on a strict budget, Police Traffic and Air Support Lt. Steve Robertson said the grant money “will allow us to staff these checkpoints without detracting from our other core traffic-related enforcement and education responsibilities, and without impacting the city's General Fund.” ...

Six motorists were arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol during a sobriety patrol operation, police said. Glendale and South Pasadena police officers scoured the city as part of the “Avoid the 100” crackdown on DUI drivers. They stopped 64 vehicles and directed 21 field sobriety tests, according to Glendale Police Sgt. Michael Glassick. A vehicle was impounded during the operation. Another two drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving without a valid license, he said.

The California Highway Patrol will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in Altadena on Friday, part of a regional crackdown on unsafe driving during the Labor Day weekend. The agency announced the checkpoint today, noting that the number of arrests and collisions involving drunk drivers typically increases during the summer months. Officers will also be checking for valid driver's licenses during the checkpoint. In a statement, CHP Capt. Steve Strull, the Altadena area commander, said the point of the announcement was to remind the public to designate a sober driver during the holiday weekend.

Holiday revelers should think twice this Fourth of July weekend before getting behind the wheel after drinking alcohol. Police in the Los Angeles region planned to crack down on drunk drivers through the holiday weekend starting Friday. GLENDALE — A 47-year-old cyclist was arrested Saturday after he allegedly crashed his bicycle into a car stopped at a red light, police said. Robert Rubio of Glendale had a .22 and .23 blood-alcohol level — nearly three times the legal limit of .08 — during field sobriety tests, according to Glendale police reports. Rubio was riding north on Brand Boulevard at Maple Street about 4:04 p.m. when he tried to pass a car idling at a red light, Sgt. Dennis Smith said. Rubio slammed into the back of the car, which sustained a small scratch, Smith said.

Boy rescues self from fast-moving wash A 16-year-old boy rescued himself Sunday from a wash at Crescenta Valley Park, where he had entered to recover a basketball, fire officials said. The boy entered the two-inch deep wash to get his basketball, but the fast moving water knocked him off his feet, Battalion Chief Greg Godfrey said in an e-mail. The water carried him for about a half-mile until he was able to get himself out of the wash, he said. "He is a very lucky kid," Godfrey said in an e-mail.
