In a story that appeared on Page 1 of Saturday's paper, "Aguirre suspects acquitted," it was not made clear that a mistrial was declared on the murder charges facing defendants Karen Terteryan and Rafael Gevorgyan. As the story and headline stated, the two men were acquitted of attempted murder, and Gevorgyan was cleared of a charge alleging he participated in a violent crime in connection with a street gang. However, the judge in the case declared a mistrial on the murder charges against the men, as the result of a hung jury on those charges.

NEW CODE BARS STREET GANGS FROM LOITERING WHAT HAPPENED The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has requested incorporated cities to enact ordinances similar to the county code, barring loitering by criminal street gangs in order to curtail gang activity throughout the county. This would allow the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to enforce the prohibition throughout the county. WHAT IT MEANS It would be unlawful for any person who is a member of a criminal street gang to loiter in a public place with the intent of publicizing its dominance over a certain area or to intimidate nonmembers, or with the intent to conceal drug activity or other unlawful activity.
