LA CRESCENTA ? "Prescription: Suicide?" is not an easy topic, but for parents who are considering medicating their children for mild to more severe anxiety disorders, it may be one worth trying to take in. The controversial documentary, which screens at the Beverly Hill Film Festival on Saturday, examines the side effects of anti-depressants on children in six families across America. Five-time Emmy Award-winner Robert Manciero, of La Crescenta, said he took on the project as a labor of love but had no idea how the film would develop until the cameras started rolling.

CITY HALL — Police officials assured at least one Glendale Police Advisory Council member Monday night that the turmoil consuming Burbank’s finest was a far cry from things here. CHARLES UNGER Here is a case that is hard to believe. And the question I have for all of you who read this today is, should this case have been filed? This is the story of John Welles, a 66-year-old man living in Cornwall, Conn. Welles was dying of cancer and decided he wanted to end his life. Welles told his friend, Huntington Williams, that he was prepared to die and wanted to make sure he did it with one shot. Williams knew a little bit more about this than Welles did. DAN KIMBER The principal came to my room to tell me that one of my students wouldn't be coming to my class. He paused to take a long breath, then told me that she had ended her life that morning by putting a gun to her head. She was 13 years old. She was a good student; she was pretty; she was smart; she was well-liked. She was a delight to have in class. The words that the principal spoke made no sense to me. How could I not have some inkling that something was wrong with this child?

ARCADIA ? Chris Jones has come to realize several features of his Glendale High baseball team. For one, he said, the Nitros won't light up the scoreboard. They'll go about their ways by scoring three or four runs a game and playing solid defense. And secondly, Jones said, the Nitros will go as "Jesse Meaux goes." Glendale played like it has all year in Monday's Pacific League game against Arcadia. The Nitros, led by Meaux, produced five hits and took advantage of three Apache errors in a 4-1 road victory.

"We have determined that he died as a result of what appears to be a single gunshot wound to the upper torso," said Glendale Sgt. Tom Lorenz. A group of teens walking along a dirt path through the hillside area just above Montrose Community Park found the body, which was partially clothed with no shirt on, Lorenz said. Police released few details on the man's identity.
