Sang Lee SOUTH PASADENA -- When it rains it pours. The Glendale High football team had one of those nights as it commited four turnovers in a 40-0 loss Friday to South Pasadena High in storm-like conditions. Glendale (0-3) could do nothing to find the light of day as its offense totaled just 66 yards and four first downs. The Tigers scored all 40 of their points in the first half. South Pasadena (2-1) set the tone in the game's opening drive as the Tigers ate up 82 yards -- all on the ground -- which led to Ric Arguleles trotting in from eight yards out. A Nitro turnover later, the Tigers found their way into the end zone once again when Felix Justin followed Arguleles' lead with an eight-yard score of his own. The last touchdown of the first quarter was scored by defensive lineman Daniel Zynn, when he picked up a Nitro fumble and rumbled 10 yards into the end zone.

SOUTH PASADENA - In a game dominated inside by the South Pasadena High girls' basketball team, the outcome was ultimately clinched by a clutch three-pointer that held off a valiant comeback attempt by Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. The Tigers led by double-digits in the second half before the Tologs came within a basket late, only to give up an open three-point basket to South Pasadena's Amber Partida with 1:30 remaining in a 37-31 win for the Tigers in the South Pasadena summer league on Monday.

Hamlet Nalbandyan Teams that start three sophomores and a freshman aren't supposed to withstand big runs. Never mind win league championships. But the Flintridge Prep girls' basketball team did both Friday night in its 43-39 victory against visiting Westridge. The Tigers came into the contest undefeated in the Prep League, and looked like they would remain that way after they opened the second half on a 13-0 run to grab what seemed like a comfortable 28-21 lead.

Edgar Melik-Stepanyan SOUTH PASADENA -- It seems like every time the Hoover High football team takes one step forward, it always takes two steps backwards. That was the case Friday night for the Tornadoes in a nonleague game against South Pasadena High. The Tornadoes played a good first half against the Tigers but faltered in the second half, losing, 32-13, at South Pasadena High. The Tigers avenged a 1999 loss to Hoover, in which they lost, 14-7.

Erik Boal PASADENA -- All season long, La Canada High boys' water polo Coach Larry Naeve said that South Pasadena was trying to get his team's attention. The Tigers finally succeeded in getting it Thursday. But for the Spartans, their undivided attention came at a rather high price, as South Pasadena not only ended their streak of 29 consecutive Rio Hondo League victories, but halted their run of four straight league titles with a 7-3 victory at Pasadena City College.

PASADENA? It was a failure to execute for the Flintridge Prep girls' basketball team. The Rebels couldn't seem to do much right, and their opponent couldn't seem to do much wrong. It added up to a 53-44 loss to South Pasadena in the semifinals of the Poly Basketball Tournament. "We got beat by a better team," said Rebels Coach Kenny Fisher, whose team defeated La Salle, 41-28, on Thursday in the tournament's opening round. "It's not so much what they did, it's the things we didn't do. "We fell apart and we didn't execute.

Scott Hong (Glendale Community College, 2011) Occidental baseball senior: Once again, Hong is doing it all for the Tigers. But after leading the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference last season in saves, Hong has taken on the roll as starter when he's not manning the outfield. Hong leads Oxy in both wins and saves, as he's posted a 4-0 record with four saves and has a complete game to his credit. Hong has been brilliant to the tune of a 0.64 earned-run average with 29 strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings to just eight walks.

SOUTH PASADENA - Behind the strength of its offensive line, the South Pasadena High football team was able to do virtually anything it desired Thursday night. Whether it was creating opportunities for their running backs or giving their quarterback ample time to connect on passes, the Tigers' linemen played a pivotal role in the team's 39-6 nonleague win over visiting Hoover. "We can't run if they don't block," first-year South Pasadena Coach Marty Konrad said. "Those guys really stepped up and did a good job. "It's a young group and their best games are ahead of them.

Once the plane took off from Los Angeles International Airport and soared briefly over the Pacific Ocean before floating over the Rocky Mountains and into the country’s heartland, Kathryn Poet had plenty of time to reflect on what had taken place over the course of several days. So many items of interest were soaked up by Poet, who once starred for the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy softball team before moving on to compete for the University of Missouri softball program.
