Rev. Thomas E. Witherspoon, minister of Unity Church of the Valley in La Crescenta will retire June 10 after serving the church for more than seven years. He and his wife, Jan, will relocate to Kansas City later in the month. Witherspoon entered the ministry in 1976 and served first as editor for Unity School of Christianity for eight years and later for 23 years in ministries in Melbourne, Fl., South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and La Crescenta. Prior to entering the ministry he was an editor and publisher for daily newspapers and a printing company.

EDNA C. RAMSEY Edna C. Ramsey , a former PTA president of a Glendale elementary school, died May 1, 2004, in Auburn, Wash. She was 92. She was born May 1, 1912, in Bingham, Ill., and was a longtime La Crescenta resident. She was a former president of the PTA at Lincoln Elementary School in Glendale, a Cub Scout and Brownie leader and a member of Unity Church of the Valley in Glendale. She is survived by her son, Roy Ramsey Jr.; daughters, Bonnie Ramsey Muccilli and Jeannie Ramsey Nicholson; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Jenna Bordelon LA CRESCENTA -- Pastor Thomas E. Witherspoon is not ready to retire just yet. He took over the leadership of Unity Church of the Valley last month after a long career in Florida and Lake Tahoe and is quite happy in his new home. "Retirement is not part of my language," he said. "I was sort of semi-retired in Tahoe and I didn't like it very much." His first order of business will be to attract new members to a congregation of about 50 people.

CHUCK GOOD Chuck Good, 82, died Jan. 17, 2004, in Glendale. He was born Feb. 19, 1921, in Red Oak, Iowa, and was a longtime Glendale resident. He served as president of Buena Vista Pictures Distribution in Burbank from 1980 to 1984. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters Debby Raffaniello and Susan Booker; and six grandchildren. Services were Saturday at Glendale Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Parkinson Foundation Inc., 1501 N.W. 9th Ave./Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494.

Adopt a Caseworker The Department of Children and Family Services recently held a Faith Based Community Partners Meeting at Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena at which Lynn Gillins was asked to speak on the ACAC program (Adopt a Child Abuse Caseworker.) Gillins is director of public affairs for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the La Cañada Ward and the La Crescenta Stake and has been in the ACAC program for eight years. There are many caseworkers waiting for a congregation to adopt them.

Sufi Sant healer to speak June 10 Internationally known Sufi Saint and Healer Maulana Zainulabedin Kazmi will speak at Unity Church of the Valley in La Crescenta on at 11 a.m. June 10. Maulana comes from a 1,500 year unbroken Golden Chain of Sufi Masters who embody the highest principles of true spirituality. Since 1999, Maulana has traveled over 200,000 miles lecturing, teaching and making zikr (praising and chanting in the remembrance of God.) Maulana asks that participants bring a bottle of water and a bottle of olive oil to be blessed.
