Otmara -- Martinez The engagement of Otmara Poch of Studio City and Evelio Martinez of Glendale was announced to family and friends at the home of the bride-to-be. Otmara, the daughter of Jose and Otmara Poch of Studio City, is attending Cal State Los Angeles and will graduate next year. She is employed in the marketing department of Dilbeck Realtors GMAC but plans a future in social work. Evelio is the son of Evelio and Maria Martinez of Glendale, and is a manufacturing technician in the Albumin Processing Department of Baxter Pharmaceuticals in Glendale.

UNIVERSAL CITY - A 30-year-old man wanted on attempted murder charges in Indiana led police on a multi-county pursuit that ended shortly after Burbank police officers opened fire in a busy intersection, shattering the driver's side window, later striking the man and sending him to a local hospital, authorities said.  Beginning near the Cajon Pass in San Bernardino County, Steven S. A small earthquake was reported Monday morning near Hollywood. The 2.6 magnitude temblor was reported at 7:44 a.m. A preliminary map put the epicenter around Universal City, the Los Angeles Times reported . Because it was so small, it's unclear how widely the quake was felt. But the U.S. Geological Survey said a few people did report feeling it. -- Shelby Grad, Los Angeles Times

They were invited to participate by showcase organizer Carol Chrisong, a professional singer and karaoke hostess, who is on a mission to bring back the art of singer showcases. Chrisong's own production company Lucky Duck Productions organizes monthly showcases at B.B. King's Blues club which gives up-and-coming singers a way to promote their talents.

Claudia Peschiutta GLENDALE -- These women are ready to celebrate. A few area residents are set to take part in the 53rd annual Conference of the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women in Universal City on Saturday. Iva Carrico, a parishioner of Incarnation Catholic Church in Glendale will be at the event, of which the theme is "Jubilee Women! Our Message Goes Out to All the Earth." Carrico, a longtime Glendale resident, said she has been attending the annual conference for about 50 years.

Joyce Rudolph Jessie Payo of Burbank and her band Jessie and the Raindogs will return to Universal CityWalk's B.B. King's Blues Club at 8:30 tonight to celebrate the release of their first CD "House Broken." Special guests include teen guitarist Reeve Carney, guitarist Johnny Stachela, and Benny Golbin, John Diaz, Josh Bower and Tim Vaughn, all on brass. Providing back up vocals are two members of the Burbank High School Vocal Choir In Sync Cate O'Neil and David Diaz.

Gretchen Hoffman LOS ANGELES -- A man suspected of driving under the influence caused a series of wrecks near Universal City that killed a Glendale woman, Los Angeles Police officials said. Elizabeth Alboyadjian, 50, was killed after the man drove into oncoming traffic on Cahuenga Boulevard near Woodrow Wilson Drive at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to police and Craig Harvey of the coroner's office. No further information was available on the driver on Thursday, police said.

Jerry Bean, former publisher of the Valley Sun newspapers, suffered a mild heart attack last Friday while vacationing in Canada. Since the attack, Bean, publisher of the Century Group Newspapers, has been recovering in a hospital in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. He was scheduled to be moved to a hospital in Halifax this week for further examination and a possible angioplasty. Listed in good condition, Bean said he hoped to return to California in order to be installed today (Friday)
