Jerry Bean, former publisher of the Valley Sun newspapers, suffered a mild heart attack last Friday while vacationing in Canada. Since the attack, Bean, publisher of the Century Group Newspapers, has been recovering in a hospital in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. He was scheduled to be moved to a hospital in Halifax this week for further examination and a possible angioplasty. Listed in good condition, Bean said he hoped to return to California in order to be installed today (Friday)

Claudia Peschiutta WILLING VICTIMS Kids in the Santa's Safety Workshops at the Glendale-Crescenta Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross aren't afraid of pain. Those enrolled in the Community First Aid and Safety Workshop held Tuesday could hardly stay in their chairs when instructor Sara Smith asked for someone to play the part of an accident victim. "Who wants to come up here and be a victim," Smith said. "Ooh, ooh" and "right here" called kids, waving their arms in the air and fidgeting in their seats.

Exhibit is up at FastFrame FastFrame continues its portion of the Open Studio Exhibit at 112 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale. Artists featured are Robin Cohen, stone sculpture and oil paintings; Suzanne Ehrmann, hand made jewelry with silver, gems and glass; Chun Ming Huang, photographs of Hong Cun in China; a village founded in the mid Song Dynasty (1131-1162); Richard Pina, portrait illustration, architectural renderings, paintings; Renee Sands, collages with paper and stone.

The Oakmont League of Glendale named Judy Mendicina as President. This year's theme for the organization, selected by Mendicina, is “Friendship, Laughter and Teamwork.” Mendicina has been a member of the league since 2004. Serving with her on the board are Linda Malmquist, Nina Ratliff, Monica Sierra, Donna Sauer, Chris Haliajian, Mary Broerman, Jeri Benton, Caryolyn Beaton, Lynn Dittrick, Natalie Graw, Marlene Hirt, Barbara McCullough, Ellen Farewell, Allison Weir and Chloe Ross.

Bella's Studio of Glendale welcomed a huge crowd Sunday to its 38th annual "The Face of Beauty" gala at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City hotel in Universal City. The event was a hair and fashion show that organizers Bella Ghazarian and her daughter, Arlet Ghazarian , touted as a day of "Fashion, Fun and Entertainment." The more than 500 attending were able to participate in a lottery and prize drawing. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
