Joyce Rudolph All the colors, sounds and sights of the holiday season came together Sunday when Assistance League of Glendale welcomed 600 guests to the 24th annual Festival of Trees luncheon at the Universal City Hilton ballroom in Universal City. In his invocation, Don Galleher described the holiday season as meaning music, lights, welcome, laughter, fragrance, giving, remembering and love, which is what inspires the projects taken on by Assistance League members.

The 13th annual gala for the New Horizons Family Center on Saturday night will recognize 13 key sponsors who have helped build and sustain the nonprofit organization since its inception. These 13 “signature sponsors,” which include Porto’s Bakery and local philanthropist Ruth Charles, were chosen for their years of dedication to the organization, said Maria Rochart, the executive director and founder of New Horizons. This handful of supporters, who each donated $7,500 for this year’s gala, will be seated in a special VIP section and have their own waiters and wine at the event.

Three local sorcerers are stirring the evil brew to scare you out of your skin at Universal Studios Hollywood's looming "Halloween Horror Nights." For the uninitiated, the attraction is an interactive experience in which guests are lured into Universal's theme park, then systematically terrorized the entire night. Patrick Moloney, Cory Asrilant and Michael Burnett are the ghouls behind the scenes.

Gretchen Hoffman The Glendale YWCA is taking part in a pilot program designed to educate children and teens about domestic violence and break the cycle of violence. A 6-foot-4-inch statue of an angel will serve as the symbol of the program's goal of domestic and community peace. Officials announced the new educational program, which will be held in conjunction with the EduCare Foundation, at an event to unveil the statue Wednesday night at Universal CityWalk.

Geestman ‘Evening with the Stars’ The Desi Geestman Foundation has a new event this year described as glamorous and heartwarming. The Evening with the Stars Celebrity Gala begins with a pre-event champagne reception for VIP ticket holders and sponsors with the main event at 7 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City. The event will allow guests an opportunity to meet, mingle and dine with some of the most popular stars of daytime television from ABC, NBC, CBS and SoapNet.
