Many thanks to all who battled blaze Now that cleanup is behind us and we have started to think about what the El Niño rains might bring, the Cañada Crescenta Democratic Club would like to take this opportunity to thank some wonderful people for their actions during the Station fire. First and foremost, thank you to the brave and skilled firefighters from numerous jurisdictions for their diligence and hard work in protecting our neighborhoods. The incredible effort in and around the La Cañada Country Club area and the controlled burns at the top of Rosemont and Briggs were carried out flawlessly, and were a textbook example of the training and professionalism of these fine men and women.

Some stories, like urban legends, resurface with predictable regularity. After about 10 years, you can start anticipating their appearance. It all started with attempts to get Pickens Canyon cleared of brush that has accumulated over the years. And now someone wants to talk about spending millions of dollars to build a bridge across the canyon. If anyone can tell me how a bridge would solve the problem of brush removal, I would be happy to listen.

Periodically, it has been expressed in public forum discussions between city officials and members of the public that the 1993 Glendale Hillside Ordinance was the product of extensive study over a long period of time. Deliberations over the details of the ordinance took place for no less than three years prior to it passing into law. It was the product of broad outreach to and consultation with technical experts and design professionals, concerned public officials and members of the general public.
