As the current Glendale Community College baseball season was on deck, Vaqueros Coach Chris Cicuto admitted how fulfilling it would be to bring home a third consecutive Western State Conference South Division, but the veteran skipper put far more of an emphasis on a game-by-game approach rather than any long term goals of continuing his team's historic run of success. Cliched as the one-game-at-a-time approach may be, it's resulted in a WSC conference title three-peat and, in turn, a third straight appearance in the opening round of the 2013 California Community College Athletic Assn.

Jin Park could no longer find the strength to pick up a club after playing golf for nearly a decade. After competing on the Glendale Community College men's golf team in 2011, Park opted to take last season off because of exhaustion. Feeling refreshed and having the urge to grip a club again, Park chose to return to the Vaqueros this season. Park's decision proved to be a wise one. After two solid rounds at the Western State Conference Tournament on Monday at Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai, Park extended his season and will next participate in the Southern California Regionals on May 6 at Los Lagos Costa Mesa Golf and Country Club.

GLENDALE - Prior to his team's game against L.A. Mission on Tuesday, Glendale Community College baseball Coach Chris Cicuto expressed faith in starting pitcher Angel Rodriguez. That's quite the vote of confidence considering the 2013 Western State Conference South title was on the line. “Glad I was right,” Cicuto laughed, clearly enjoying Glendale's 4-1 victory against L.A. Mission at Stengel Field that gave the Vaqueros their third consecutive WSC South crown. Glendale improved to 24-10 overall, but more importantly 18-4 in conference, two games ahead of second-place Bakersfield with two games remaining.

SYLMAR - Just two days removed from a gritty win at Bakersfield, a fatigued Glendale Community College baseball squad had its six-game winning streak snapped in another Western State Conference South Division road game against LA Mission College. The Vaqueros held a three-run lead in the sixth inning before giving up seven runs in the frame and 11 unanswered to eventually lose to the Eagles, 14-6, Saturday afternoon at El Cariso Park in Sylmar. “We were a little tired,” Vaqueros Coach Chris Cicuto said.

GLENDALE - After recording a third-place finish Monday in a Western State Conference home match, the members of the Glendale Community College men's golf team immediately began to look ahead to the conference final. Glendale college had four players crack the 70s to finish with a 385 on Monday at fabled Oakmont Country Club. PHOTOS: Glendale Community College men's golf in Western State Conference match While Glendale Coach Greg Osbourne would have liked to have seen the Vaqueros win on their home course for the third season in a row, Monday's placement left the Vaqueros knowing what they will need to accomplish at the 36-hole conference tournament on Monday at Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai.

WALNUT - It was a day of exceeded expectations for the Glendale Community College track and field team at Saturday's community college edition of the 55th annual Mt. San Antonio College Relays. Maybe no one came in with more acclaim and lived up to that subsequent billing than did Glendale sophomore Grace Graham-Zamudio. The state leader in the 1,500-meter run superseded her California-best time of 4 minutes, 36 seconds by winning the event in 4:34.47, which was just off the meet record time of 4:33 set by Phoenix's Trina Leopold in 1985.

After qualifying for the Southern California Regionals and then competing in the Western Conference Tournament last week, the members of the exhausted Glendale Community College men's tennis team made the long trek to San Diego on Tuesday. While the Vaqueros were glad to return to the playoffs for the first time in two seasons, they were not able to shake off fatigue. Fifth-seeded Glendale saw its season end with a 5-1 loss against third-seeded San Diego Mesa in a quarterfinal match.

With essentially a brand new cast of players, the Glendale Community College women's tennis team did something it hadn't done since 1999 - qualify for the Southern California Regionals. While the Vaqueros would have liked to have extended their season, they made strides to improve the program's outlook. "It's a tremendous reward just to get this far," Glendale assistant Coach Deo Sy said after seventh-seeded Glendale suffered a 5-0 road loss to second-seeded Mt. San Antonio College in a first-round match Tuesday.
