A Verdugo Hills High School student has been named a California State University, Los Angeles, President's Scholar. Edgar Cecil Green II is one of 12 Southern California high school graduates honored with the scholarship. Each President's Scholar receives free college tuition for four years of full-time enrollment at Cal State L.A., including tuition, books, and other academic and living expenses. The scholarship is recognition for outstanding academic achievements, extracurricular activities and leadership in high school.

WOLFE Natalie J. Ward and Lars I. Wolfe, both of Burbank, were married at Middle Ranch Lodge in Lake View Terrace. The Rev. Frank Woods officiated. A reception followed at the lodge. Christine Holland served as the bride's maid of honor, while Gary Smith was the best man. The couple honeymooned in Maui, Hawaii, and are living in Burbank. The bride is the daughter of Gail and David Ward of Glendale. She graduated from Village Christian High School in 1999.

The Mt. Gleason Runners of Sunland-Tujunga will open this year’s 4th of July parade with a mile long footrace. Over 80 entrants will run down Foothill Boulevard beginning at Mt. Gleason Avenue traveling to Sunland Park, beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 4. Trophies will be awarded to the top three men and women competing in the First Sunland-Tujunga Marathon Mile Race. The runners will lead the way for the 27th annual parade, sponsored by Sunland-Tujunga-Shadow Hills Rotary Club.

Regarding Tujunga-dissing by Glendale Councilman Bob Yousefian: I am a dual resident, a homeowner in Tujunga, as well as a homeowner in northeast Glendale, 91201, where I grew up and also raised my son. Bob Yousefian's remark in the News-Press of not wanting Glendale to become a blight like Tujunga was an insult to the Sunland-Tujunga community. In fact, I wish Glendale were more like Tujunga! Tujunga is a tight-knit community whose members communicate and work together for the good of the neighborhood environment.

Midge Boardman, People SUNLAND -- "Giving is a lot of fun," said Michael Bongiovanni, and he isn't talking about Christmas presents. The Verdugo Hills High School senior is more interested in giving of himself to serve God and his fellow man. Bongiovanni is a member of F.R.O.G., the acronym of For Righteousness Of God. This four-member team, an outgrowth of the High School Youth Group at First Baptist Church in Sunland, is guided by Associate Pastor Paula Whidden, who came to the church five years ago. "God was calling me to work with teens," she said.
