Glendale officials are seeing a full-color demonstration of what they hope will happen in the San Fernando Road Creative Corridor, with Technicolor Inc. agreeing this month to move 100 film-processing jobs into a 40,000-square-foot Flower Avenue warehouse. The move is expected to be complete in July, after the firm downsizes and shutters a North Hollywood facility in June, said Joe Berchtold, president of Technicolor’s creative services division. Technicolor also has facilities in Burbank, as well as other Southern California cities.

Judy Seckler GRANDVIEW -- Unpack, inspect, repack. For two weeks, that was the mantra of 10 workers from the Glendale Assn. for the Retarded as they toiled diligently in a Walt Disney Co. warehouse. The entertainment company found itself overwhelmed recently when it asked its stores around the country to donate figurines for charity, said Joan McCarthy, manager of Disney Community Relations. After the items passed inspection, they would be shipped to assorted charities for fund-raising.

Ryan Carter The day before Burbank Police Officer Matthew Pavelka's funeral, a man known around that department as Tennessee showed up at headquarters. He was there to help with the funeral -- in particular, getting the officers ready for it by shining their shoes. Tennessee, 29, whose real name is Iran Fleming, has honed his shoe-shining skills over eight years, three of them while working for the Glendale-based Warehouse Uniforms. With Tennessee's shoe-shining service, it supplies local departments with uniforms and accessories.

BURBANK - A 29-year-old Panorama City man has pleaded not guilty to charges that he and two other men posed as Charter Communications employees to steal copper wire from utility poles, officials said. Jesus Arreguin-Lopez faces a felony count of grand theft of copper wire belonging to the cable company, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court criminal complaint. The other two men - Jose Esparza, 26, of Van Nuys and Juan Lopez, 30, of Los Angeles - were also charged in the alleged copper wire theft, but they were released from jail on $20,000 bond each and won't be in court until next month, officials said.

Gary Moskowitz After 15 years as a warehouse worker and driver for Glendale schools, Alan Wilkins is worried that he might not have a job next year. Board members approved the elimination of five classified positions, effective July 1. Those positions are a typist clerk, an education assistant and three warehouse worker/drivers. But Glendale Unified School District officials said Wilkins and other classified employees should not worry. Darleene Barrientos With enrollment going down and district properties becoming vacant, board members are looking to clean out storage spaces to cut down on lease commitments and possibly generate income. The former Edison Elementary School site, now called the Pacific Avenue Education Center at 440 W. Lomita Ave., is home to several district programs and outside educational organizations. They include Glendale Community College night classes, Armenian Relief Society Saturday classes and weekday Foothill Area Community Transition Service classes.

GLENDALE — A 56-year-old transient man was arrested Friday on suspicion of arson in connection with a May 27 fire that burned a warehouse and a number of new cars owned by Glendale dealer Star Auto Group. The Los Angeles County District Attorney is slated to file charges today against Gary Peters, who allegedly set a blaze that consumed more than 40 cars and caused more than $1 million in damages. Peters, was arrested Friday after two homeless men who knew him contacted the Glendale Police Department with information about the incident, said Glendale Police Det. Miguel Porras, an arson investigator.

GLENDALE ? A 24-year-old Atwater Village man is scheduled to be arraigned today in connection with stabbing another man multiple times during a dispute Thursday in a relatively serene neighborhood, officials said. Jerry Romansky is booked on $30,000 bail at a Los Angeles jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He was arrested Friday in connection with stabbing a 52-year-old Glendale man in the back of the neck, right collarbone and right forearm, Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

Darleene Barrientos Sometimes, even Glendale firefighters need rescuing. When a valve malfunctioned on a fire truck this week as it returned to Fire Station 21, Glendale Fire's dedicated mechanics came out to service the truck and make it work within the hour. "It's just part of their typical duties," Glendale Fire Capt. Gerry Duss said. Duss oversees the Glendale Fire maintenance facility, which maintains and repairs the department's fleet of 78 vehicles.

Claudia Peschiutta GLENDALE -- Irshad-Ul-Haque has come a long way from the days when he couldn't speak English and earned his living helping out in a Los Angeles toy factory for $1 an hour. The 57-year-old Pakistani native -- one of the richest men in the city -- owns three businesses and is set to become president of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce. "This is the only country in the world that has the opportunities," he said. "If you work are willing to work hard, you can succeed."
