BOYS' SOCCER Crescenta Valley 4, Hoover 1 : With first place in the Pacific League at stake, the Crescenta Valley High boys' soccer team got a strong second half effort that featured a pair of successful penalty kicks from Erick Trejo. Crescenta Valley, ranked No. 7 in the latest CIF Southern Section Division III poll, got a tie-breaking goal in the 45th minute from Rani Dimashki to post a league road win against Hoover on Wednesday at Toll Middle School. Crescenta Valley improved to 17-2-6, 7-1-3 in league and sits atop the league standings with Burroughs, which posted a 1-0 win against Muir and will travel to face the Falcons on Friday.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL Hoover 35, Pasadena 34 : After leading by seven with about 40 seconds to play at home, Hoover saw Pasadena make a late charge and knock down consecutive three-pointers after a Tornadoes traveling call. The Bulldogs stepped to the free-throw line in the waning seconds of the game with a chance to tie or take the lead, but missed them both to deliver the Hoover victory. It snapped a 58-game losing streak in the Pacific League for the Tornadoes with their last win also coming against Pasadena, 54-46, at home on Jan. 21, 2009.

ARCADIA - Stuck in a mini losing streak, the Glendale High girls' water polo team looked to turn around their fortunes heading into their last regular-season Pacific League match Thursday afternoon. With Biyouregh Boghozian and Maddie Corpuz leading the way, the Nitros got back on track and gained some momentum entering the league tournament having clinched no worse than a third-place seed. Boghozian finished with five goals and Corpuz added three to spark Glendale to an 11-5 road win against Arcadia.

GLENDALE - Things appear to be taking shape for the members of the Crescenta Valley High girls' water polo team. They've begun the week as the top-ranked team in the latest CIF Southern Section Division V poll and they continue to score goals at an alarming rate while racking up lopsided victories in the process. Crescenta Valley turned to Elissa Arnold on Tuesday afternoon against host Glendale in a Pacific League match and Arnold showed she could handle the workload as she scored a game-high nine goals to lead Crescenta Valley to a 16-2 victory.

GIRLS' WATER POLO Crescenta Valley 24, Hoover 0: The Falcons got a complete team effort in a shutout victory over the Tornadoes in a Pacific League game Tuesday. Crescenta Valley improved to 14-1, 2-0 in league, while Hoover fell to 0-9, 0-3. Louisville 14, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 8: Hannah Walleck and Anna Porter attempted to rally the Tologs back from a 6-1 deficit in Mission League action Tuesday. Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy managed to pull within four, 12-8, late before falling at L.A. Pierce College.

BURBANK - It was a result that showed what different trajectories the Glendale High and Burbank girls' water polo teams are currently on. A stout defense that forced 24 turnovers and equally dominating offensive performance from Biyouregh Boghozian, who finished with a game-high eight goals and five steals, led Glendale to a 14-4 Pacific League victory Tuesday on the road. “My coach always tells us to think defense first and offense is going to come by itself,” said Boghozian, who also had with five steals.

BOYS' BASKETBALL Crescenta Valley 66, Burroughs 33 : Nick Springer had 18 points and five rebounds on Friday, as the Falcons improved to 13-4 and 4-0 in the Pacific League. Arin Pezeshkian had 13 points, while Cole Currie added nine points, five assists and four rebounds. Pasadena 56, Glendale 29 : Glendale fell to 7-9 overall and 2-2 in the Pacific League with Friday's loss. Vahe Aristakessian had 15 points and eight rebounds, as the Nitros kept it close, trailing just 19-15 at halftime, but a three-point third quarter spelled their doom.
