?Third-time?s-the-charm? was the theme for Flintridge Sacred-Heart Academy coming into the CIF Southern Division IA volleyball championship on Nov. 17 at Cypress College. Instead, the Tologs? season came to an end just days after upsetting top-ranked Santa Barbara. Sacred Heart Head Coach Shelli Orlandini said her girls were underdogs all season. The only time they played like one was against Mission League rival the Harvard-Westlake Wolverines, who beat the Tologs in four games in the title match, 24-26, 25-7, 25-21, 25-21, for the program?

LA CAÑADA FLINTRIDGE ? The way things were going for Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy?s soccer team, it seemed as if this might very well be another season of disappointment when it came to playing rival Harvard-Westlake. But for the first time this millennium, victory was to be had by the Tologs against the Wolverines. A Mimi Roukoz first-half tally stood as the game-winner with the Sacred Heart defense standing tall for a full 80 minutes, leading the Tologs to a 1-0 Mission League win against Harvard-Westlake on Friday night at St. Francis High.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD ? Things got even more interesting for the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy soccer team. With one Mission League match remaining, the Tologs still have an outside shot at winning the first league championship in program history and, then again, there?s a shot they could fall short of returning to the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs after last year?s absence. All this came to be after the Tologs second match in four days with their archrivals. When Flintridge Sacred Heart and Harvard-Westlake get together, there?

NORTH HOLLYWOOD — Two Mission League matches removed from a monumental win against Loyola High, St. Francis’ boys’ soccer team is finding the fight for league supremacy to be a lot more than just overcoming the obstacle that was the defending-champion Cubs. It’s really not all that much of a shock to the Golden Knights, though. “We’re not surprised by their quality, we expected this,” said St. Francis Coach Glen Appels, shortly after his team’s 1-1 league tie with host Harvard-Westlake on a cold Wednesday evening.

Since most of your letters are from people ranting and raving or snipping at one another, I'll make my letter a simple question that no one can get angry about. I've read your paper for several years, including the sports section. I know what a Falcon is, I know what a Spartan is, I know what Mustangs, Wolverines, and even Vaqueros are, but what the heck is a Tolog? I know it ain't in my dictionary. Thanks. By the way, no offense to Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, I'm sure it's a great school.

Hamlet Nalbandyan Nancy Tinkham called it a "forgetful error" on her team's part, and was it ever forgetful. For about five minutes Wednesday night, the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy volleyball coach thought her team had taken the first game from Mission League rival North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake. That was until a service rotation error gave the Wolverines a second chance, one which Jess Quiroz's squad took full advantage of. -- BOX SCORE -- -- Flint.

Jeff Smith SUN VALLEY -- You know it's your night when airballs start turning into assists. Such was the case -- twice -- for Harvard-Westlake High as the Wolverines cruised to a 73-29 victory against Village Christian in a summer league boys' basketball contest Wednesday at Village Christian. "We didn't want to rub it in because we have great respect for Village Christian, but tonight was just one of those nights where the ball kept bouncing our way," Harvard-Westlake Coach Greg Hilliard said.
